Push-Up Challenge

I think it’s psychologically important to finish a workout strong. That’s why I almost always end my workout with a ‘finisher’ of some kind – something to burn out the muscle groups I’m working for the day, to end the workout on a positive note and to feel like I’ve made some solid and satisfying progress.

This video provides a great example of a ‘workout finisher‘ – in it, I explain and show how to perform the push-up drop set. Watch the video first, then read the recap directly below it:

Video Recap

The push-up drop set is a unique push-up challenge, and a great finisher to try at your next workout.  Here’s how to do it:

  • Pick a challenging push-up variation for you – one that challenges you for 10 or 15 reps.  Do a set of these and stop 1-2 reps short of failure.
  • Without rest, immediately follow this by a push-up variation that’s slightly less challenging.  Do a set of these and stop 1-2 reps short of failure.
  • Finish the push-up drop set with a push-up variation that would normally be easy for you (although by this time, if you’ve done it right, this set will be far from easy :) ) Perform as many reps as you can on this set – go to failure.

Enjoy this quick upper body blast.  It’s a great way to end a workout, get those chest and arms pumped and do it in just a couple minutes time.
